Darmasiswa is an annual scholarship program provided by Indonesian Government to students from countries which has diplomatic relations with Indonesia. This scholarship offers foreign students to study Indonesian language, arts, music, culinary, and Indonesian crafts. The scholarship participants can choose universities that are members of this cooperation program throughout Indonesia.

The Darmasiswa Program was first held in 1974. Initially, only countries in Southeast Asia (ASEAN members) were participating in the program. Then it developed to countries on other continents joined this program. The purpose of darmasiswa is to strengthen diplomatic relations through culture by learning Indonesian, arts, and several studies.

The main objective of darmasiswa program is to promote and increase foreign students’ interest in Indonesian language and culture. This program is also aimed providing a stronger link or cultural relationship and understanding among participating countries.
